HMSOM Policy of Use of AI

The 2025-2025 Hackensack School of Medicine Student Handbook policy 7.3 Use of Artificial Intelligence states:

Students must adhere to the HMSOM Generative AI (gAI) policy. gAI use in assignments is prohibited unless explicitly permitted by faculty. When allowed, students must use the HMH-approved tool (Ekam) and cite its use, including prompts and how the output was used. Using other gAI tools requires pre-approval from HMH’s Digital and Technology Services (DTS). Using any gAI for confidential information (e.g., patient data, HMH data, research data) without explicit permission is strictly prohibited. gAI cannot be used to generate clinical documentation except in specific circumstances with permission. Using permitted gAI without citation is plagiarism. Faculty must clarify gAI usage policies in their syllabi. See the full policy for details and examples.
