Health Ethics Lab: Lab Members


 

Angelo Cadiente, MD, MPH

Angelo CadienteAngelo Cadiente MD, MPH is a former Founding Research Fellow at the Health Ethics Lab. He is currently completing his Obstetrics & Gynecology Residency at Maimonides Medical Center in Brooklyn, NY. His foundational research interests are on the ethical use of artificial intelligence in medicine and medical education, geospatial analyses for access to care, and protections related to vulnerable populations. He continues to serve as a Research Consultant for the Health Ethics Lab.

Jamie Chen, MD

Jamie ChenJamie Chen, MD is a founding research fellow at the Health Ethics Lab, which she has been actively involved in since its inception! As a recent graduate of the 2021 cohort at HMSOM, she is currently completing her Ophthalmology Residency at UMass Chan in Worcester, Massachusetts. Her interests in bioethics center on the ethics of artificial intelligence in medicine, as well as questions of justice and vulnerability in research populations. She is particularly drawn to bioethics as a way to critically consider responsibility, equity, and the societal implications of medical innovation. Jamie is excited to continue her role as a research consultant at the lab and enjoys working with students!

Jenna Mustafa

Jenna MustafaJenna Mustafa is a Medical Student at the Hackensack Meridian School of Medicine, with a primary interest in health ethics and the intersection of medicine, morality, and global responsibility. Her prior research has explored ethical prescribing of opioids, dignity preservation in protected patient populations, curriculum development for pediatric end-of-life care, and the ethical dimensions of cartography and bioethics.

Jenna is particularly drawn to the duty of the healthcare provider to the patient, their community, and to the world. Global equity in the healthcare space and moral responsibility in healthcare delivery, especially in times of global conflict, are a current interest and future endeavor for her.

Anthony Peterson

Anthony PetersonAnthony Peterson a 3rd year medical student from Virginia. Anthony is a wildlife photographer, avid athlete and reader, and enjoys playing the piano. He has always had an interest in ethics, and that curiosity grew during his philosophy courses in undergrad. Looking to pursue a career in orthopedic surgery, and due to his experiences traveling the world and encountering a vast array of religions, Anthony is most interested in surgical ethics and how religion intersects with medical decision-making.

Riya Savla

Riya SavlaRiya Savla is a fourth-year medical student at Hackensack Meridian School of Medicine. She has lived in New Jersey for most of her life. She is currently applying for residency in anesthesiology, and her future career aspirations include pediatric and obstetric anesthesiology. Riya has always been interested in navigating ethically gray areas in medicine, and she has worked on projects regarding the cosmetic use of GLP-1 injections for weight loss as well as the increasing AI in the world of anesthesiology. Outside of medicine, she loves to dance (Bhangra), hike, and travel!

Connor Wirth

Connor WirthConnor Wirth is a third-year medical student at Hackensack Meridian School of Medicine with plans to pursue Emergency Medicine residency training after graduating in summer 2026. He developed an interest in bioethics through his work with Dr. Pilkington and fellow students, focusing on ethical questions surrounding prescription opioid use in medicine and the balance between patient access and potential for abuse. His projects have explored justice and beneficence in chronic pain management, as well as QI efforts and longitudinal work targeting patient care, specifically OUD treatment in the emergency department. Connor is eager to continue contributing to the lab’s projects, supporting other students, and carrying these ethical perspectives into his future clinical practice. In his free time, he enjoys weightlifting, playing guitar, and listening to rock music.
