Description: This piece honors fifteen healthcare workers unlawfully killed by Israeli forces in Gaza, represented by the roses, and also calls to attention the unlawful imprisonment of Dr. Hussam Abu Safiya, represented by the broken stethoscope. It reflects the hidden toll of violence on those who dedicate their lives to healing, reminding us that behind every headline are lives cut short and care denied. Creating it was both painful and necessary, a way to confront the tragic injustice that too often hides in plain sight.
Description: I made these two paintings a few years back. I drew the anatomic heart with oil pastels and pencil back when I was first learning anatomy. The second painting is a watercolor of a butterfly. I love that butterflies start off hidden in chrysalises, actual hidden gems, before becoming something so delicate and beautiful!
