Name: John Marcin
Cohort: 2022
Hometown: Marlborough, CT
Description: This constitutes my first recording of an entire musical work, and was originally recorded in July 2020 during the COVID pandemic. It is also the piece that I submitted for the HELP program music video project in 2022, providing therapeutic music for geriatric patients throughout the Hackensack Meridian Network, predominantly at Mountainside Medical Center.
Bio: I am an M1 who has been studying classical piano for 17 years. I have also studied jazz for 8 years, predominantly on tenor saxophone, in addition to many other genres. Furthermore, I am a self-taught guitarist and vocalist. I am a music therapy volunteer at Mountainside Medical Center, co-leader of the Arts in Medicine Club, and a member of the HELP music program. I minored in music at Fordham University and was a leading member of the jazz groups there. I have maintained a love of performing throughout my life and continue to do so within my medical school career.

Description/explanation of the work: It is easy to get caught up in the grind of school and focus on the hardships we have been through. I wanted to look back on my first year of medical school and highlight all of the great memories I have made. Congrats, 2022 Cohort. 1 year down, 2 (or 3) to go.
